Our objective here is to demonstrate that the CB used in Bandit's primary filming car is the Pace CB-143 or Pace CB-144.
Through meticulous observation of both the microphone, CB and location, it becomes apparent which model is used in Smokey and the Bandit.
Using screenshots taken directly from scenes in the film, we will show evidence that a Pace CB-144 is mounted under the driver’s side dashboard.
This is the only time when the front of Bandit’s CB microphone is clearly visible. Since we can see the rectangular silver label found on the Pace CB-144 and Pace CB-143 models, there can be no doubt this is the microphone in the Bandit's primary filming car.
Though hard to see under the steering wheel, we notice that the big right knob does not have numbers displayed like the Pace CB-143 does. This provides evidence that the Pace CB-144 is the CB used in Bandit's primary filming car.
In this screenshot we can see the bottom left corner of the police scanner and the CB microphone mount. The CB-144 microphone mount is on the front, where the Pace CB-143 mounts on the side. This is further evidence that Bandit uses the Pace CB-144 and that it is mounted under the steering wheel and not on the console above the gear shifter.
Once again referencing the microphone, we can see by the shape at the top that Bandit is talking in to the same model he uses throughout the movie.
Here we can see that the big right knob does not have numbers displayed like the Pace CB-143 does. Once again, we have evidence that the Pace CB-144 is the CB used in Bandit's primary filming car.
