Quality comparison of original 16MM film scan and Blu-ray HD quality video.
Below is a scan of a single frame from a 16MM copy of Smokey and the Bandit. I compared it to the same frame on the Blu-ray and made the following observations...
- The 16MM has more content top and bottom. I didn't realize we were missing so much of the movie with the 16:9 aspect ration of the Blu-ray
- The image quality of the Blue-ray seems slightly higher than the 16MM (look at the tape stripe lines)
- The 16MM has lost some of its color quality
- I don't have a way of digitizing 4K-Ultra yet. But I will add that to the comparison as soon as I can. Thanks to David Armes for selecting our groups latest profile pic!
